Leadership

About the Headmaster

Mr. Salieu Turay is the Headmaster of the Milton Margai School for the Blind. He is committed to instilling discipline, promoting academic excellence, and building effective school management systems that support the holistic development of every pupil.

How he became Headmaster

"In 2016, whilst working as an Administrative Assistant at the National Pentecostal Secondary School, there was a vacancy at the Milton Margai School for the Blind in May that year. I was then approached by some members of the board, including the then Chairman and other old students, to seriously think about providing good leadership to the school. After careful consideration, I was recruited by the School Management Committee and acted for 2 and a half years. Instilling discipline, academic excellence, and effective school management systems were my desires. And as such, I was approved substantive Headmaster in February 2019."
Career & Experience

Mr. Turay brings over 20 years of expertise in blind education and special needs advocacy. Before his appointment in 2016, he developed his commitment to inclusive education at Prince of Wales and National Pentecostal Secondary Schools.

Our History

A Brief History

The Milton Margai School for the Blind traces its roots to the early 1950s. Under the visionary leadership of Sir Ernest Dunstan Morgan, the country's first formal education programme for blind children began in 1956 at Wilberforce with just three pupils.

In the early 1960s, with strong backing from the late Sir Milton Margai—Sierra Leone's first Prime Minister—a permanent site was secured and a purpose-built campus established at Wilkinson Road.
